Our generation confronts war and imperialism, environmental destruction, poverty wages, and skyrocketing tuition. Youth unemployment is at record levels. Student debt is over $13 billion dollars. Homelessness is rising. Capitalism does not work for us. Growing numbers of people do not accept this future. Socialism is urgent, necessary and possible!

The youth are the future!

The history of Canada shows that youth are a radical and progressive force; we can make politics and transform society. The Young Communist League of Canada - Ligue de la jeunesse communiste du Canada (YCL-LJC) is an organization in the tradition of countless rebel youth -- Aboriginal, Acadian, Québécois, and Canadian -- who have called to break with oppression and exploitation and demanded a better, socialist, future. We declare solidarity with all those who want to build a stronger and more militant youth and student movement today. We fight for peace, solidarity, jobs, education, democracy and the environment. We believe capitalism and imperialism breeds social and ecological problems. We struggle for a socialist Canada and proudly call ourselves internationalists and young communists.

 The YCL-LJC is Canada’s oldest revolutionary youth organization. Formed in 1923 with the inspiration of the Great October Socialist Revolution, we struggled against the Great Depression, helped organize the On To Ottawa Trek and the Canadian Youth Congress, sent brigades to the Spanish civil war, resisted the Cold War, and rallied in solidarity with socialist Cuba and against imperialist wars in Korea and Vietnam. We stood up against racism, and for feminism and women's rights, gay rights, the rights of Aboriginal and Québécois nations, well as better work and wages, unions, accessible education, affordable transit and housing, and democratic culture. We helped build today’s student movement.

The future is socialism!

The YCL-LJC is made up of school and community clubs across the country.  We are a mass-based organization of young workers, employed and unemployed, high school and post-secondary students, young women and men, queer and straight -- all classes and strata of the population who are exploited and oppressed by Canada’s monopoly capitalist system. We mix culture with political activism, debate, discussion and education. We don't sit around - we organize!

The YCL-LJC is a full member of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, which unites anti-imperialist youth groups from every continent, and co-organizes the World Festival of Youth and Students with the International Federation of Students. We are members of the Canadian Network on Cuba and la Table de concertation de solidarité Québec-Cuba. We are also associate members of the Canadian Peace Congress. The YCL is politically united with, and organizationally autonomous from, the Communist Party of Canada, Canada's party of socialism.

We publish Jeunesse Militante en Francaise and Rebel Youth magazine in both English and French. We’re organizing -- building campaigns and fighting for a life with a future. All around the world, the fires of change are burning.
