Gaza massacre sparks world-wide protests

by Daphne Liddle

THOUSANDS of people gathered last Saturday in the wintry sunshine on London’s Embankment to join the rapidly-organised protest against the one-week-old Israeli onslaught on Gaza, which had turned from bombing raids to ground invasion on the Friday night.

The 50,000-strong protest was organised jointly by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War coalition, the Muslim Council of Britain, CND and other groups as one of dozens of similar demonstrations. Another 30 marches were held on the same day in Britain. Two thousand protesters joined a rally in Manchester. In Portsmouth, nearly 500 people took to the streets and some 300 marched in Bristol. Hundreds turned out in Cardiff.

Police said there were about 500 demonstrators in Glasgow and 600 in Edinburgh, although organisers said there were more like 2,000 protesters in each city.

Marches were held in France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, Turkey and many other countries.

Israeli Arabs held a protest march, Kuwaitis also took to the streets, a day after bigger Middle East rallies, and peaceful pro- and anti-Israel protests were held in New York.

In Paris, police said more than 21,000 demonstrators, many wearing Palestinian keffiyeh headscarves, marched through the city centre chanting slogans such as “Israel murderer” and waving banners demanding an end to the air attacks.

There were many union banners on the London march and union leaders had urged their members to join it.

Many protesters paused along the route as they passed Downing Street to hurl old shoes at the security barricades there in solidarity with Iraqi journalist Muntadar al Zeidi, who had thrown his shoes at George Bush in a news conference in Baghdad in December.

Someone threw a firework, causing a lot of noise but no damage but police were unnerved by it.

The march was led by veteran campaigner Tony Benn, George Galloway MP, jazz singer Annie Lennox, activist Bianca Jagger and comedian Alexei Sayle.

At a news conference before the rally Dr Daud Abdullah of the Muslim Council of Britain said he found it “incomprehensible” that the British government, and the US, did not approve a Security Council vote calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Lennox said that TV footage of the attacks, which, at that stage, had killed more than 400 people, had left her “shaken to the core”.

Alexei Sayle said Jewish people in the public eye should stress this was “not being done in our name’. Later, addressing the rally in Trafalgar Square, he said Israel has an idea it was being noble but was using the “psychology of the murderer’ to explain the attacks.

Meanwhile, Labour MP John McDonnell, who leads the Labour Representation Committee, accused the Government of “standing by” and demanded that Parliament was recalled to discuss urgent action on the crisis.

Former Mayor of London Ken Livingstone called for the European Union and Britain to withdraw their ambassadors from Israel to signal disapproval with the “slaughter and systematic murder of innocent Arabs”.

Respect MP George Galloway suggested Israel’s attacks would create a new generation of radicals around the world.

“We will be very, very lucky if the explosions taking place in Gaza today don’t blow up in our own face at some time in the future,” he said.

disproportionate

Bianca Jagger condemned the attack by Hamas against innocent Israeli citizens, but called for the international community to guarantee the immediate halt of the “disproportionate, unlawful use of force by Israel”.

She added: “I would like to make an appeal to President-elect Obama to speak up. People throughout the world were hopeful when he was elected and we must appeal to him to ask for the immediate cessation of the bombardment of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.”

After the rally around 5,000 demonstrators left the Square heading to the Israeli Embassy to continue the protests that had taken place there every evening since the bombing began.

As they made their way there were chaotic scenes when protesters entered an underpass. According to eyewitness reports, police in riot gear began hitting and stamping on protesters, leaving several wounded with head injuries.

complaint

Organisers said they would make an official complaint to Scotland Yard after claiming that riot police charged into people during the protest. Eyewitnesses claimed that a number of people, including children, were thrown to the ground in an underpass at Hyde Park at the end of the demonstration.

Progressive political leaders around the world have condemned Israel’s brutality. Sinn F’in President Gerry Adams last Monday called on the International community to focus diplomatic efforts on persuading Israel to cease hostilities in Gaza.

Adams said: “The Israeli ground offensive in Gaza, while widely anticipated, will be greeted with horror around the world. The latest development marks a further escalation of the onslaught endured by the people of Gaza for the past week.

“The United Nations has advised that there is a growing shortage of basic foodstuffs and fresh water because of damage to the infrastructure in Gaza.

“This is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis. More than 400 people have already been killed while hospitals are struggling to cope with the more than 2,000 injured. The combined efforts of the international community, including that of the Irish Government and the EU, must now be bent towards resolving the situation in Gaza. All diplomatic efforts must be focused on persuading the Israeli Government to cease its operations in Gaza and end hostilities.”

Malaysia’s former Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad has blamed the United States for backing Israeli military aggression against Palestinians in Gaza, saying it makes the US “much more guilty than even the Israelis”.

Mahathir Mohamad, long known for his anti-West views, on Monday said that no matter how clever or powerful Israel was it would not be able to carry out the offensive without US support.

“The backing by the US gives it encouragement to do all these things which I think ordinary Americans would not like to see them do,” Mahathir said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

“Israelis believe if they go to war there is this big brother that is going to come with the weapons, with the money, so they don’t care what the world thinks.”

The Indian government also condemned the Israeli aggression. “The Government of India condemns the on-going incursion into Gaza by Israeli ground and other forces. It urges an immediate end to military action by all concerned,” External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said in New Delhi.

He said the suffering of civilians in the region must end.

India has also announced an aid of US$ one million for the civilian victims of the action in Gaza.

There will be another national demonstration this Saturday, 10th January - Assemble Hyde Park: March to Israeli Embassy High St Kensington, London. There are also daily protests on 5th to 9th January, 5.30pm-7.00 pm Israeli Embassy, High St, Kensington, London.

And there will be a march through Cardiff on Friday 9th January assembling at 2pm on the green opposite City Hall and a vigil at the Nye Bevan statue from 12 noon to 1pm every Tuesday until the massacres stop.

News from the cpi(m)

Press Release

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) now in session at Kochi has adopted the following resolution:

Condemn Israeli Military Aggression on Gaza

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the continuing Israeli military attacks on the Palestinians in the Gaza strip. Having aerially bombarded the Gaza, killing hundreds of innocent people, Israel has now moved its armed forces in a war of aggression against the Palestinians. 40 civilian refugees were killed by shelling on January 6 in a United Nations school and three more in another school.

If the USA had not blocked a UN-sponsored ceasefire, at least these 43 civilians, many of them women and children, would have been alive. This is the real nature of US imperialism's support to Israeli aggressiveness.

In this attack alone, over 600 civilians including more than 200 children have died so far and thousands of others maimed or injured. Israel's plea that this military invasion is being taken to stop the violation of the ceasefire by the Hamas with its rockets fired at Israeli targets, is specious, to say the least. It was Israel which broke the ceasefire first on November 4, 2008 when its bombardment killed six Palestinians in Gaza and, again on November 17, when another bombardment killed four more Palestinians.

Since 1948, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been massacred by Israel. Of these, a large number have been innocent civilians. Such barbarity is perpetrated in the name of fighting Palestinian terrorism. The root cause of the conflict in West Asia continues to remain the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.

The USA and Israel list Hamas as a terrorist organisation. It was the same USA that had insisted upon democratic elections to be held within Palestinian territories as a precondition for taking forward the peace process. In these elections, universally acknowledged by western observers to be free and fair, the Hamas won. For US imperialism and Israel, however, democratic elections must always throw up those whom they want elected and not those whom the Palestinian people want. Having asked for elections and overseeing them, US imperialism and Israel now refuse to accept the democratic verdict of the Palestinian people. It is this blatant refusal to accept popular mandate of the people by US and Israel that is the root cause for the current hostilities that Israel is unleashing against the Palestinians.

The Manmohan Singh government has identified itself as an ally of Israel which is harmful for the country's interests and spoilt India's traditional support to the Palestinian cause. Under these circumstances, it is incumbent upon the Congress-led government to immediately cease all military cooperation with Israel. India cannot be a party to finance the inhuman Israeli juggernaut. India must exercise its influence amongst the developing countries to mobilise for an effective implementation of an immediate ceasefire and for eventual realization of the Palestinian nation.

Peace-loving humanity cannot and should not allow such barbarity to continue. Israeli aggression against the Palestinians must immediately stop. Currently, Israel is refusing even to pause its aggression to allow humanitarian aid to flow to Palestinians. It is, thus, ensuring that many more innocent civilian Palestinians will die in the absence of food and medicines.

The Indian people, who have always stood by the Palestinians in their genuine struggle for a homeland since the days of our independence struggle, must today rise in protest against this inhuman Israeli attack. This expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people must be accompanied by much-required humanitarian assistance.

While conveying our deepest solidarity with the Palestinians in this grim battle, the Central Committee of the CPI(M) calls upon the Indian people to mount pressure on the Indian government to take firm measures in mobilizing world opinion to halt this military attack against the Palestinians immediately.

CP of Venezuela, PCV: 'The government of Israel has converted Gaza into a concentration camp'

PCV: 'The government of Israel has converted Gaza into a concentration camp'

The Communist member of parliament denounces the green light from the White House and the complicity of the United Nations system, which have allowed the Zionist regime in Israel to convert Gaza ito the largest known open-air prison in the world.

Caracas, Dec. 28 Peoples Tribune (Newspaper of the PCV). "We denounce that with the approval of the White House and the complicity of the system of United Nations, the Zionist government of Israel has been permitted to turn to Gaza into an immense concentration camp, to turn Palestine into the largest known open-air prison in the world, all tolerated by many of the countries that are supposedly the defenders of human rights," said Carolus Wimmer, Vice-president of the Parlatino Venezuelan Group, regarding the recent attacks of Israel against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

"With this genocidal action, Israel wants to close all the doors to a possible dialogue that allows the peaceful resolution of the conflict. It is necessary to remember that it has been the intransigence of Israel which has prevented time and time again a peaceful solution, first with [Palestinian Premier Yasser] Arafat and the PLO, and at present either with Ab’ Abbas [PLA leader] or with Hamas." the parliamentarian emphasized.

"It is infuriating that the passivity of the governments of the international community has allowed Israel to impose collective punishment, clearly prohibited by the international law, while the military machine of the occupation continued to act without compassion against the Palestinian civilian," said Wimmer, who is Secretary of International Relations of the PCV.

"In the name of the PCV, we energetically condemn the Israeli regime's illegal attack and its genocide against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and consider it an act of state terrorism perpetrated upon a defenseless civilian population with the consequence of hundreds of killed and more than thousand wounded," the deputy declared.

"The PCV calls upon the Venezuelan national government to consider the suspension of diplomatic and commercial relations with Israel because the Israeli regime does not respect human rights, International Law, the UN Resolutions and the Opinion of the International Court at The Hague, which has condemned the Apartheid Wall," the communist leader explained.

"We express our solidarity regarding the suffering of the 1.5 million people who remain prisoners in Gaza without being allowed to receive humanitarian aid of food, water, medicines or provide energy, with all that these shortages entail, and we call upon the Venezuelan people during these very significant days to show our condemnation of Israel's violence against the Palestinian people," Wimmer concluded.

South African CP, Statement On The Genocidal Aggression of The Israeli Security Apparatus Against The People of Gaza

SACP Statement On The Genocidal Aggression of The Israeli Security Apparatus Against The People of Gaza

6 January 2009

The South African Communist Party joins millions across the globe, including tens of thousands of Israeli peace activists, in expressing outrage at the genocidal aggression of the Israeli security apparatus against the people of Gaza. This aggression is both futile and absolutely disproportionate to the alleged objective of halting rocket fire from Gaza, an enclave that has been suffering a bitter and illegal siege for months.

The real and entirely cynical objectives of the current military offensive include the boosting of the popularity of Israeli politicians ahead of February elections, and punishing Palestinians for supporting a political party of their choice in democratic elections.

In overall strategic terms, “Operation Cast Lead” is part of a broader Zionist agenda that includes the Zionist apartheid wall and the daily harassment of Palestinians on the West Bank and in Gaza. In the words of Israeli peace activist, Ur Shlonsky, the objective is to “terrorise the civilian population, assuring maximal destruction of property and cultural resources... The daily life of the Palestinians must be rendered unbearable: They should be locked up in cities and towns, prevented from exercising normal economic life, cut off from workplaces, schools and hospitals, This will encourage emigration and weaken the resistance to future expulsions”. The hundreds of Palestinian civilian casualities of the last few days of intensified aggression (like the tens of thousands who have been killed in the last years), are not “collateral” victims, they are the targets.

It is also in this light that the 2004 relocation Jewish settlements in Gaza should be understood. The relocation was presented as part of Washington`s “road map to peace” and a “victory” for Palestinians. In fact, it was exactly the opposite. The presence of Jewish settlers within Gaza was an impediment to turning the territory into a concentration camp that could be indiscriminately bombarded.

The SACP further condemns the criminal complicity of the US administration, the major backer and arms supplier to the Zionist state, and the hypocrisy of all major western governments.

Issued by the SACP.

CP of Britain, Israeli occupation and war crimes must end, insist Britain's Communists

Communist Party of Britain, Friday, January 09, 2009

http://www.communist-party.org.uk , mailto:office@communist-party.org.uk

Israeli occupation and war crimes must end, insist Britain's Communists

Israel's brutal attack on the defenceless people of Gaza shows once more the reactionary nature of the Israeli state and the cynicism of all its leading politicians', Steve Johnson told the Communist Party's political committee on Wednesday (January 7).

'This military invasion was planned well in advance to destroy Palestinian resistance and any prospect of a united, viable Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem', he alleged.

'After the illegal blockade of Gaza and a series of provocations, culminating in the killing of six Palestinians on November 4 to break the ceasefire, the Olmert regime gained its pretext with the resumption of rockets fired into southern Israel'.

'While Britain's Communists oppose the targeting of civilians from any quarter, this should not obscure the fact that at the root of this violence is Israel's continuing illegal occupation of Palestinian land and the crimes against humanity which go with it', London district secretary Mr Johnson declared.

Reiterating the Communist Party's call for an immediate ceasefire and sanctions against Israel until it withdraws from occupied Palestine, he also urged Britain's trade unions to 'repudiate organisations like Trade Union Friends of Israel as we would have repudiated a Trade Union Friends of South Africa under apartheid'.

The Party's political committee also urged workers and local communities in Britain to 'resist mass redundancies and house repossessions by taking over and occupying workplaces and homes'. It called for a left-wing programme of policies including public ownership of the financial and energy sectors, a wealth tax on the super-rich and price controls on household fuel and public transport.

The Communist Party will be organising a 'month of action' against the gas and electricity monopolies in February, together with a series of meetings across Britain to celebrate the socialist character of the Cuban revolution in its 50th anniversary year.

Hungarian CWP, Solidarity with Palestinian People

Hungarian Communist Workers' Party, Thursday, January 08, 2009

http://www.munkaspart.hu , mailto:mp200@t-online.hu

Down with the aggressors! Down with the killers!

Peace and freedom to the people of Palestine!

Gyula Thrmer, President of the Hungarian Communist Workers’ Party made the following statement 8 January 2009 on the meeting of the HCWP at the Embassy of Palestine in Budapest:

“Israel is continuing, for the 14th day in a row, its criminal aggression on the Gaza Strip. Israel is bombing schools and nurseries. Israel is destroying civil houses and public buildings. More than 600 Palestinians, adults and children became victims of the Israeli devastation. The Israeli aggression threatens with a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. Israel has persisted in violating the most basic humanitarian values, norms and principles of the international law. Israel does not allow even the international humanitarian organisations to enter the Gaza Strip, causing sufferings and death for thousand and thousands people. Israel turns the Gaza Strip for 1, 5 million people into an enormous concentration camp. Before the eyes of the world the torture and killing of people is going on.

The aim of Israel is clear. The Israeli politicians want to build it victory on elections in Israel over the dead bodies of Palestinian children. This is the policy of war criminals, the policy of killers.

By these brutal attacks Israel tries to achieve what was impossible by imposing the wall, the siege and blockade: to break the resistance of the Palestinian people.

We condemn the policy of genocide and state terrorism which is now the official policy of the Israeli government.

Israel is unfortunately not alone. It is supported by the USA. The United States which like to play the role of the defender of human rights, know assist in killing Arab people. Israel receives every year more than 3 billion dollars of US military aid. This money goes for killing Arab people, children and women.

Israel is endorsed by the cynic policy of the European Union, which puts on the same level the killers and his victims. This policy practically supports the aggressors.

Because of the dishonest policy of the US and the EU the UN Security Council failed for the second time in reaching a resolution that would force Israel to accept an immediate ceasefire.

On behalf of the Hungarian Communist Workers’ Party we express firm solidarity with the people of Palestine, the Palestinian National Authority and with all other forces fighting against the aggression.

We support the efforts of the Palestinian people to establish the independent State of Palestine, within the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

We demand Israel to stop the aggression immediately and to allow the humanitarian organisations to enter the Gaza Strip.

We demand Israel to begin immediate talks with representatives of the Palestinian people elected in 2006 on democratic elections.

We demand the Hungarian government to declare the Israeli ambassador in Budapest persona non grata, and to recall the Hungarian ambassador from Israel. We call the Hungarian government and other political forces to suspend all high-level contacts with Israel, and to boycott all Israeli events until the aggression finishes.

We declare for everybody: the killing of millions of Jews in the concentration camps during the Second World War was a crime, a crime against the Jews, against mankind. Those who close thousands of Arab people into concentration camps and kill them, commit the same crime. The historical past does not justify the actual extremist politicians of Israel. The historical past does not give us the right to be silent. We should do at least something against those who threaten the world with wars, killing and fascism of new type.

Down with the aggressors! Down with the killers! Peace and freedom to the people of Palestine!

WPC statement of urgency!

No to the Israeli invasion to Gaza-Stop the massacre of the Palestinian people!

The World Peace Council (WPC) expresses its vehement condemnation of the yesterday’s invasion of Israel into the Gaza strip in Palestine. The Israeli cruelty has no end. After the week long bombardment of innocent children, women and civilian population, the heavy armed war machinery of Israel is escalating further its aggression with a ground invasion. The hundreds of dead Palestinians, the thousands of injured by Israeli bombs are crimes against humanity and have to be put to court as such.

The Israeli regime would not be able to commit those brutal attacks without the full support of the US administration (outgoing and incoming one). The position expressed by the Czech EU- Presidency (about “defensive character of the invasion”) shows the criminal complicity of the European Union, which is far away from being more human or even less a counter pole of the USA.

The government of Israel is counting also on the internal differences and contradictions amongst the Palestinians and the Arab world. This is the moment of highest responsibility and unity against the troops of invasion and occupation. We call upon all the peace loving forces in the region to unite against the imperialist plans in the Middle East, against the “procurator” of Imperialism in the region, the reactionary and inhuman Israeli regime.

We express our deep respect and solidarity to the forces struggling for peace inside Israel and we salute their brave protests and demonstration in Tel Aviv and other cities.

The World Peace Council is calling upon the Security Council of the UN and its Human Rights Council in Geneva, to prove their minimum respect to the founding Charta of the UNO and the Universal declaration of Human Rights, by condemning clearly the Israeli aggression and imposing an end to the invasion and the occupation of the Palestinian Territories, which is the first cause for all the suffering of the Palestinian People since 60 years now.

In this moment the peoples of the world have to react with massive political protests and actions against the injustice and genocide of the Palestinian people. The WPC calls for increased solidarity and humanitarian aid of all means and will take respective initiatives in the coming days.

CP in Denmark, Statement on Gaza

Communist Party in Denmark, Wednesday, January 07, 2009

http://www.kommunisterne.dk , mailto:kpid@kommunisterne.dk

Statement on Gaza

Communist Party in Denmark, KPiD, wants to express its strong solidarity with the Palestinian people, which is now facing a severe aggression from Israel.

The background of the present situation is not the acts of the legally elected Hamas’-government, but the fact:

that Israel for more than 40 years has occupied Palestinian territory

that Israel has continued the building of new settlements in Palestine in spite of peace agreements and UN condemnations

that Israel has continuously arrested Palestinian politicians and thereby hampered the possibilities of building a democratic Palestinian state

that Israel has hindered the possibility to have the necessary supplies of food, medicines, etc., for the Palestinian population

that Israel has build the apartheid wall and that Israel in many other ways has broken all international laws.

We condemn the Israel State’s cruel and terrorist actions - not the Israeli people.

But we strongly call on the Israeli people to get rid of the criminal regime in Israel!

In deep solidarity with our Palestinian comrades and all people in Palestine, who live and struggle under the worst possible conditions, we wish you a happy New Year!

With the most fraternal greetings,

CC of the Communist Party in Denmark - KPiD

Portuguese CP, PCP condemns the Israeli Offensive in the Gaza Strip and appeals to the mobilization of the Portuguese People

Portuguese Communist Party, Friday, January 09, 2009

PCP condemns the Israeli Offensive in the Gaza Strip and appeals to the mobilization of the Portuguese People

PCP firmly condemns Israel's military aggression in the Gaza Strip and demands that the Portuguese government urgently undertake an adequate position and political and diplomatic initiatives that aim to end the bloodshed in Palestine.

The long-time planned invasion by Israeli troops of the Gaza Strip, that has resulted in hundreds of victims and countless destruction, assumes the utmost graveness, as it is part of the plan of imperialist dominion of the region and of the forces that consider war as a solution to the serious crisis of capitalism that is affecting the world

PCP condemns the position of the USA Administration of support and stimulus to the criminal Israeli aggression, as well as the position of the UE in coordination with the US in the massacre of the Palestinian people, and considers disquieting the absence of any action of the UN regarding this offensive.

PCP expresses its solidarity with the Palestinian people in its prolonged and heroic struggle for the construction of their own independent and sovereign State in the territory of Palestine. PCP values the courageous actions of social and political forces that in Israel are fighting for peace and the recognition of the national rights of the Palestinian people.

PCP considers unacceptable the position of the Portuguese government, of evading the condemnation of the continued Israeli aggression and insists on the imperious need for a clear and unequivocal condemnation by Portugal of the illegal and criminal actions of the State of Israel.

Appealing to the workers, the youth and the population at large to mobilize around the demand for an immediate end to the Israeli aggression, PCP expresses its support for the rally called for by several organizations, to be held on January 8th, at 18h, in front of the Israeli Embassy.

WFDY Statement on the attack of Israel on Gaza, Palestine

The World Federation of Democratic Youth, by this mean, denounces and firmly condemns the brutal, illegal and criminal attack of the Israeli army to Gaza, Palestine, in the same sense we express that the Israeli policy move to the military level is an expression of its political failure in Gaza and the region.

Over the last days the Israeli army, its bombs and weapons, have destroyed thousands of killed hundreds of Palestinian people (just in the first day 120 Palestinian policemen were massacred) and wounded several other thousands whose only crime is to struggle for a land and country that is theirs.

The offfense of Israel is not based on a defensive purpose, first of all because the mass killing and destruction are never the way for peace or for the resolution of a conflict. Moreover, it is important to remind that Israel (with the active cooperation of Egypt) is the exact same country that has sieged Gaza for many months, not allowing its people to communicate with the outside world, and making the living standarts low to a real humanitarian catastrophe level.

It is this very same Israel that has built an illegal and shameless wall inside the Palestinian territory that makes the people of Palestine not being able to move freely inside their own country. The very same Israel that invades Palestine everyday to imprison illegal and arbitrary Palestinian people. The very same Israel that cuts the olive trees in Palestine, leaving the Palestinian economy hopeless and the Palestinians unemployed. It is the very same Israel that is poisining the water drunk by the Palestinian people, making the cancer rates increase in Palestine.

WFDY believes that the slogan of fighting Hamas and terrorism was used as a pretext to end the palestinian resistance formed by several factions speccially secular, leftist and popular resistance in addition to Hamas. A conspiracy to end the palestiniaan cause by ending the palestinain identity and destroying all its means of subsistence is a common goal for Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other Arab regimes. USA fully supports and covers the war while the EU is giving Israel more and more time before issuing a real standpoint, closing its eyes before a situation that had long been know as very bad and that is clearly catastrophic. It is a conspirancy by all means from many imperialist forces, their puppets in the Middle East and the zionist criminal state of Israel.

WFDY expresses its total solidarity with all the actions of resistance and solidarity organized all over the world over the last week.

WFDY calls upon all its friend and member organizations, as well as all young progressive and democratic people of the world to make the return to classes in schools and universities and to work places for those who work, a return to the struggle. In this sense, WFDY decided that between 5 and 10 of January 2009, should be a week of worldwide protests in front of the Israeli, US and Egyptian to demand immediate cease of fire, and opening of the borders for all the needs of the Gazan people, and their right to move in and out of their big jail.

Shame and disgrace on the fascist Zionist aggression against Gaza

Communique from the Syrian communist party

Brothers and sisters, our brave people

The disaster took place and the aggression on Gaza had happened with unlimited brutality. Farms and houses were burned; the dead bodies of children had filled the streets. The fires of invaders didn't distinguish between young and old.

This aggression took place with collaboration of some Arab leaders and with full American blessing, that the attack happened directly after series of secret and public meetings between the Saudi king and responsible from Israel and USA and after the visit of Levni, the minister of foreign affairs of Israel, to Egypt and also the rounds of responsible in the Egyptian regime. This regime who closed the cross points between Egypt and Gaza strip causing the lack of medicine, water and electricity, it's a decision of killing one and a half million of Palestinian in Gaza, only because they refused to kneel down and stop resistance. All of this is a part of Israeli American imperialist project for the region. And now the imperialism shows its fascist face after its deep economical crisis. And we see that the princes and kings of the Arab gulf never hesitate in giving full support to this project and to show full obedience to the Americans, only to keep their heavy thrones. They buy the weapons of America which are the same weapons which kill our people in Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

The Syrian stand is honorable one in solidarity with our Palestinian people, that the president Bashar Alasad had called for an emergency Arabic summit to support the Palestinian people against the Zionist fascist aggression. And also Syria did its best in breaking the blockade on Gaza because it was turned by Zionist and the collaborators of the official Arabic regime into Nazis prison.

The disastrous situation in Gaza is considered genocide according to the system of international court which was signed in Rome in 1998.

Gaza by this steadfastness assure that the people give time but never give up, that the people of Gaza sacrifice themselves and the refuse to surrender because they know that making the invaders angry is less cost than making them satisfied, and the resistance is the only way to get the rights back whatever the sacrifices might be.

Our Syrian communist party addresses all the free people to do their best to stop this Zionist crime and to break the fascist blockade on Gaza.

Long live the Palestinian resistance- glory for Gaza the defeater of the invaders victory for people.
